So I’m currently pulling apart an old Franzen novel for a project I’m working on, and it’s kind of breathtaking how well it’s holding up to the most brutal of analysis. Even when it’s beaten down to verbs, nouns and adjectives it reads like water out of a tap. It is almost enough to make me want to never write again.

My greatest discovery of this year so far (excluding my phenomenal niece, born Jan 1, 2011 at 8.05 am) has been Drunk History - admittedly a good three years behind on this one but it is hilarious.
The premise is basically the creators get historians drunk. And then film them talking about an historical event. That is then re-enacted along to the retelling. It’s brilliant.
